"This system makes everything so easy to manage"

Miss England

Introduction

The Miss England title is owned by the Miss World organisation. Each year the national event is organised by Angie Beasley, a winner of 25 beauty contests in the 80s. Angie has organised lots of beauty pageants around the country on behalf of Miss World, including Miss UK, Mr UK in the 1990s. At the start of the millenium, Miss UK was then divided into four, now giving four girls the opportunity to participate in Miss World. Miss England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales each lead in to Miss World.

Challenge

Angie needed a website that would allow her to make instant changes to reflect what was happening in the area heats and update the contestants’ details and images. She was reliant on outside sources to do this for her, resulting in delays in updating information and extra expense.

Angie received a brochure from Thirty Thirty detailing our Model-IT package and realised that it could be just the answer to her problems and benefit her business. Model-IT’s content management system (CMS) could be installed to work behind her existing website design so, although everything still has the same look, she has the latest technology helping her control all aspects of her operation.

After consultation Thirty Thirty created a new website, www.miss-england.co.uk, that meshed seamlessly with her old website, www.missengland.info. This new site is hosted on Thirty Thirty’s highly reliable servers which can support all the applications being used. Navigation between the two sites is problem free and users do not notice any difference in the look of the site – unless they notice the change of domain in the browser address bar.

Benefits

Miss England now has a more interactive web presence that is totally up to date with everything that is happening. Thirty Thirty’s content management system enables Angie to upload heat results, contestants’ details, images etc as they happen rather than wait days for someone else to do it for her. She can do all this without knowing any HTML code as the system does all the work for her, even down to automatically resizing images.

The Content Management System enables automatic processing of operations that previously were done manually and has added new applications that greatly enhance the running of the business. Prospective contestants can apply to enter area heats via the new online entry form. All details are kept on a secure database, which can be used to contact heat organisers and contestants to keep them up to date via email broadcasting.

Angie likes the ease of use of the system and has now commissioned Miss England mini sites for all the heats in the competition. To date every area heat has been run by a franchisee who may have their own website or no website at all. This new system of satellite mini-sites is linked to the Miss England database and means that details from every area only need to be uploaded once, giving a quicker and more efficient service. Each area has access to its own area of the database and Angie has access to and use of all the information stored.

The greatest benefit of the system of mini-sites means that the whole operation has the same Miss England corporate image instead of a wide variety of franchisee names and websites. The sites will be an integral part of each future franchise giving everyone the same web presence and powerful tools to administer their area.

Angie has also commissioned Thirty Thirty to put the same CMS behind her new Miss Teen Queen website.
