Red and White Kop
Introduction
Red and White Kop is a popular Liverpool FC online fanzine comprising of a content management system driven by the popular SMF forum software. The site receives in excess of 20,000,000 page views per month from all over the world. RAWK is non profit making and is funded by donations from users, therefore the budget available for upgrades was very limited.
Challenge
Red and White Kop has grown rapidly over the past 6 months, with the number of page views having more than quadrupled, so much so that it became too big to cope on a standard shared hosting account. Thirty Thirty was approached by RAWK to move the website to a Red Hat Linux dedicated server platform which would be maintained by Thirty Thirty to ensure that the website would be able to cope with the traffic it was receiving. In addition, due to the quantity of traffic, their old PHP Nuke driven portal was unable to cope. Thirty Thirty was asked to develop a new website that would integrate with the existing SMF forum used by the site enabling users to post comments on articles using their message board login. A Coppermine photo gallery was also installed to allow the site’s users to upload their pictures from football matches.
Benefits
Red and White Kop now has the peace of mind that no matter how much traffic hits the site in a day, the website will remain up with no slow down which it was suffering from previously. Their site content is powered by the forum thus ensuring that there is a consistent look and feel to the overall website and that users can post comments to articles using their user account.
